Pro- activists have slammed a forthcoming performance by rapper 50 Cent in , amid ongoing calls for a cultural boycott of Israel.

The American Grammy-winning artist announced his upcoming gig at the Menora Mivtachim Arena on 4 July on Monday. 

"We're going to have a good time! Don’t Miss Out!" he said on Twitter. 

A number of users responded to the Tweet with the words: "Users responded to 50 Cent's announcement on Facebook with the Palestinian flag. One commentator said: "Don't play apartheid."

Pro-Palestine activists associated with the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign have repeatedly called on artists not to perform in "apartheid Israel", given Israel's continued occupation of the West Bank, siege of Gaza, and persecution of Palestinians..

and other leading rights groups say Israel's actions amount to "the crime of apartheid".

Activists have called for cultural boycotts in solidarity with Palestine, a tactic used by anti-Apartheid protesters in and outside of South Africa.

This was spotlighted last year when hundreds of performers withdrew support from the  which partnered with Israel.

The mass boycott was heralded as an effective and impactful move against Israel's ongoing attacks on Palestinians by the activists.
