His twin, Ali, remains in the intensive care unit at a local hospital, fighting for his life. Jumaa, just 20 days old, succumbed to hypothermia, becoming one of six Palestinians to die from exposure to the cold in recent days in Gaza.
Now facing its second winter during the war, the harsh weather has added a devastating layer of suffering to hundreds of thousands of people already displaced—many multiple times—while efforts to secure a ceasefire remain stagnant.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) stated on Sunday, December 29, that aid remains grossly insufficient and a ceasefire is urgently needed as famine looms.
