Jordan’s King Abdullah II is under pressure as Donald Trump pushes him to accept displaced Palestinians from Gaza as part of Trump’s controversial plan to “own” the besieged enclave.
During their White House meeting, Abdullah kept his stance subtle, avoiding direct confrontation and instead referring to an upcoming Egyptian-led plan. However, later on X (formerly Twitter), he made his refusal to accept the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza clear.
Jordan, already home to over 2 million Palestinian refugees, has long rejected any attempt to turn it into an alternative homeland. But with the kingdom heavily reliant on US aid, rejecting Trump’s demands carries political and economic risks.
