Speaking to CNN, prominent Palestinian surgeon Ghassan Abu Sittah said that profits made from the University of Glasgow's investments in the arms trade should be directed towards funding the reconstruction and rebuilding of Gaza's health and education systems. Abu Sittah's comments come shortly after he was elected Rector of his alma mater, the University of Glasgow, on March 26. He won 80% of the vote. Abu Sittah lives in the UK but has returned to Gaza several times to provide medical assistance to the surgeons there, usually amid an escalation of Israeli aggressions. Abu Sittah returned to Gaza on October 9 last year, at the onset of Israel's current genocidal war on the coastal strip, where he worked with Doctors Without Borders out of the Al-Shifa Hospital and regularly grabbed headlines for his social posts and media interviews in which he shared his harrowing experiences. He remained there for 43 days.
