A Palestinian man was shot dead Saturday following clashes between Israeli forces and local Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

Teenager Ahmad Abu Obeid died from a gunshot to his head, when Israeli forces raided his village near Nablus, the Palestinian health ministry said.

Scores of Palestinians threw stones at the Israeli forces as they moved into Burqin, Reuters reported.

The 19-year-old died after clashes broke out when Israeli forces made the incursion into Burqin, hunting for the suspect in the fatal shooting of an Israeli settler last month.

Rabbi Raziel Shevah was shot dead outside the wildcat Havat Gilad settlement in the occupied West Bank on 9 January.

Israeli forces have launched a number of violent raids in the area during the search for 22-year-old suspect Ahmed Jarrar, who remains at large.

He is the son of a Hamas activist who was killed during the Second Intifada.

Israel's army have put a number of Palestinian villagers under siege during the operation. A house in Jenin has been surrounded, which troops believe is the hideout of the suspect.

Soldiers used loudspeakers to demand the suspect surrender.

Israel said one suspect was killed and another arrested during a raid last month to capture Jarrar.

Two police were injured when a shootout broke out between Israeli forces and the men inside the house on 18 January.

Jarrar succeeded in fleeing the scene, Israel claimed.

Israel is moving to provide Havat Gilad with legal status in a move likely to infuriate Palestinians.

All Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank are deemed illegal under international law and viewed as a major obstacle to peace.
