Jordan slams Israeli abuses at Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa Mosque
Israeli abuses at have drawn the ire of neighbouring , which on Tuesday submitted a complaint to over its conduct at the Muslim holy site.
The mosque is the most sacred Muslim place of worship in Ìýand the third most revered in all of Islam.
Since the holy city fellÌýunder illegal IsraeliÌýoccupation in 1967, the area hasÌýfrequently beenÌýthe scene of aggression from settlers and IsraeliÌýforces.
Israel was urged to acknowledge the rights of the Islamic waqf department, which is managed by AmmanÌýand administers the mosque and its compound, Jordanian foreign affairs ministry spokespersonÌýHaitham Abu Al-Foul said, Anadolu Agency reported.
"The ministry sent an official protest note to demand Israel halt its violations and provocations and respect the historic and legal status quo and the sanctity of the mosque,"ÌýAbu Al-Foul said.
He said that the whole of Al-Aqsa is solely for Muslim believers and slammed the extremists who stormed the compound it sits in repeatedly this month duringÌýmultiple Jewish festivals.
These have included the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, Yom Kippur, on 15 September, and the religion's new year, celebrated from 6 to 8 September and known as Rosh Hashana.
Many Jews of two Jewish temples in biblical times, considering it their faith's most sacred place.
