Israeli army raid kills 12-year-old Palestinian child
A 12-year-old boy was killed on Monday after being shot and wounded byduring a weekend army raid in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian health ministry said.
Mahmoud Samoudi was shot in the abdomen on Saturday during an army raid in , where soldiers entered a Palestinian refugee camp and surrounded a house.
At the time, Palestinian health officials said two teens, ages 16 and 18, were killed and that 11 people were wounded.
The Israeli army did not immediately respond to a request for comment about Monday's death.
Israel in recent weeks has stepped up deadly raids on towns and cities across the occupied Palestinian territory, and over 100 Palestinians have been killed in the Israeli assaults since the beginning of this year, making it the deadliest year in the occupied territory since 2015.
Among those killed was veteran who was shot dead by Israeli forces while covering a raid on Jenin in May.
Local youths who took to the streets in response to the invasion of their neighbourhoods have also been killed.
Hundreds of people have been rounded up in the raids, with many placed in so-called administrative detention, which allows Israel to hold detainees without trial or charge indefinitely.
Israel says the arrest raids are meant to dismantle militant networks but Palestinians say the operations are aimed at strengthening Israel's 55-year illegal military occupation of the Palestinian territories.
