Israel forces shoot five Palestinians in Hebron during protests

Troops shot live rounds during protests in the city, hitting three Palestinians in the leg, the Palestinian Authority's official news agency Wafa cited a correspondent as saying. The injured were treated at an hospital.

The army also shot rubber-coated metal rounds and tear gas, wounding other Palestinians who were tended to on site.

Palestinians began demonstrating in Hebron after Israeli forces killed six Palestinians on Tuesday in the West Bank cities of Nablus and Ramallah.

A later report from Wafa said two Palestinians were wounded when Israeli troops posted at the Shuhada Street checkpoint shot them with live rounds.

The two injured Palestinians were hit in their "lower extremities" and one of them was detained, Wafa reported, citing a correspondent.

It happened as Israeli forces suppressed a demonstration in the Bab Al-Zawiya area.

Several Palestinians were also arrested in Hebron on Tuesday.

Around 200,000 Palestinians live in the city, as do about 700 of the most-extreme Israeli settlers.

The Israeli army routinely uses violence against Palestinians in the West Bank and earlier this year shot dead renowned Palestinian-American reporter .

The veteranÌýAl JazeeraÌýjournalist had been covering a military raid on Jenin refugee camp at the time.
