Gaza: Second hostage swap takes place, Palestinian women and children freed
Following a second exchange swap that was agreed under a temporary truce in Gaza, prison authorities in Israel have released 39 Palestinian women and children.
The second group of 17 hostages, including 4 Thai nationals, were also released on Saturday from the Gaza Strip and have returned to Israel, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said.
Qatar said that in the second exchange of the truce, 13 Israeli hostages -- eight children and five women -- would be released in return for 39 Palestinian detainees-- 33 children and six women.
On the second day of theceasefire, critical humanitarian aid was also allowed into the Gaza Strip and gave Palestinian civilians their first respite after seven weeks of relentless bombardment.
Hamas said that it delayed the release of the second group of Israeli hostages until Israel complies with a truce agreement.
The Palestinian group's armed wing said the issues of aid deliveries to the northern Gaza Strip and the selection criteria for prisoner releases were holding up the handover.
A Hamas source had told AFP that the handover of 14 hostages to the Red Cross had begun, then later said the transfer process had been halted.
An Israeli official said the hostages had not yet been handed over to the Red Cross.
On the first day of thefour-day ceasefire, Hamas released 24 of an estimated 240 hostagesand Israel freed 39 Palestinians from prison.
24 Palestinian women and 15 teenage boys held in Israeli prisons in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem were freed.
Those freed from captivity in Gaza were 13 Israelis,10 Thai nationals and a citizen of the Philippines.
During the four days, Hamas is to release at least 50 Israeli hostages, and Israel 150 Palestinian prisoners.
Israel has said the truce can be extended an extra day for every additional 10 hostages freed — something United States President Joe Biden said he hoped would come to pass.
The start of the truce Friday morning brought the first quiet for 2.3 million Palestinians reeling and desperate from relentless Israeli bombardment that has killed thousands, driven three-quarters of the populationfrom their homes and levelledresidential areas.
The United Nations said the pause enabled it toscale up the delivery of food, water, and medicine to the largest volume since the resumption of humanitarian aid convoys on Oct. 21. It was also able to deliver 129,000 litres (34,078 gallons) of fuel - just over 10% of the daily pre-war volume - as well as cooking gas, a first time since the war began.
A UN convoy has been able to reach two UNRWA facilities sheltering internally displaced people (IDPs) in the north, where it delivered flour.
It was the first aid delivery to a shelter in the north in more than one month, OCHA (UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs) said in a report on Friday.
Three aid trucks also arrived on Friday in northern Gaza, the first aid deliveries to the north since October 7, according to a local source quoted by Anadolu agency.
“Three trucks loaded with humanitarian aid arrived in Gaza City and northern Gaza Friday noon,” said the source.

One of the most well-known detainees that were freed tonight, Isra Jaabis, has been captured reuniting with her loved ones in their East Jerusalem home.
The 37-year-old Palestinian woman, who was held in an Israeli prison since 2015, was charged by Israeli authorities for attempting to detonate a bomb. Jaabis and her family, however, say a faulty cylinder of cooking gas had caught fire near a checkpoint in East Jerusalem.
Middle Eastern media outlets reported Israeli forces storming into Jaabis' family home, as well as removed journalists and those who were not deemed immediate family members.

Israeli forces killed a total of six Palestinians in the occupied West Bank on Saturday, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said.
A 25-year-old doctor was killed early in the morning outside his home in Qabatiya, near Jenin, a stronghold of Palestinian armed groups in the north of the territory, the ministry said.
Another Palestinian was killed in el-Bireh, near Ramallah.
Four people were also killed by Israeli army fire in Jenin, during an incursion by a large number of armoured vehicles into the town, which was recently the scene of the deadliest Israeli raid in the West Bank in almost 20 years.
Witnesses told news agency AFP that Israeli forces was surrounding Jenin's public hospital and the Ibn Sina clinic, and that soldiers were searching ambulances.
They also reported heavy fighting with automatic weapons.

Many joyful but wary Palestinians emerged from makeshift shelters at the start of the four-day Gaza ceasefire on Friday to begin the long journey back to their homes.
In the southern town of Khan Younis, which has been housing thousands of displaced families including from heavily bombarded northern Gaza, streets were packed with people on the move, Reuters reports.
Men, women and children carried their belongings in plastic bags, shopping bags and rucksacks. One family sat on the back of cart piled high with bags and pulled by a donkey.
Some people looked up to the sky as if to check they were not in danger of attack from Israeli warplanes.
"I am now very happy, I feel at ease," said Ahmad Wael told Reuters, trudging along with a large mattress on his head.
"I am going back to my home, our hearts are rested, especially that there is a four-day official ceasefire, better than returning to live in tents. I am very tired from sitting there, without any food or water. There (at home) we can live, we drink tea, make bread using fire, and the oven."

Hamas announced its appreciation for Qatari- and Egyptian-led efforts at ensuring the continuation of a temporary truce agreement between the group and Israel that began on Friday.
Hamas said in a statement that the Egyptian and Qatari parties had confirmed Israel's commitment to all the terms and conditions of the agreement.
Earlier on Saturday, Hamas had decided to delay a second round of hostage releases as part of the truce deal until Israel committed to letting aid trucks enter northern Gaza.
The Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has received a phone call from US president Joe Biden to discuss an implementation of the truce- as well as ways to reduce further escalation and increasing aid flow to Gaza.
The two leaders focused on “the implementation of the humanitarian truce agreement reached between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, the joint international efforts to deescalate tensions, protect civilian lives, respect International Humanitarian Law, and increase the flow of humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza,” a statement by the Amiri Diwan said.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant stated that Israeli forces would continue its indiscriminate war in Gaza until all hostages are released.
Israeli news publication Haaretz reported that the defense minister added that any negotiation for the hostages' release would take place during "times when the bombs are falling and the forces are fighting."
"Israel's ability to bring back the first group of hostages stems from the military pressure applied," Gallant said.
"When pressure is exerted – they want a ceasefire; when you increase the pressure – they seek another ceasefire; when you escalate further – they are willing to come up with a proposal, and when you increase it even more – they're ready to offer something acceptable. That's the whole approach."

Palestinian militants in a Tulkarem refugee camp shot and killed two alleged collaborators with Israel early on Saturday, Palestinian officials said.
A Palestinian security officer said a local militant group in the camp, in the northern town of Tulkarem, accused two Palestinians of helping Israeli security forces target the group in a major army raid that killed three key militants on 6 November. The two alleged informers were in their late 20s and early 30s, respectively, and one was from the camp, said the officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.
A second Palestinian official, speaking on condition of anonymity for the same reason, confirmed that Palestinian security forces were aware of the incident. The public prosecutor’s office said it would have details in the coming days about a police investigation into the killings.

A container ship owned by an Israeli billionaire came under attack by a suspected Iranian drone in the Indian Ocean as Israel wages war on Hamas in the Gaza Strip, an American defense official said Saturday.
The attack Friday on the CMA CGM Symi comes as global shipping increasingly finds itself targeted in the weekslong war that threatens to become a wider regional conflict — even as a truce has halted fighting and Hamas exchanges hostages for Palestinian prisoners held by Israel.
The defense official, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity to discuss intelligence matters, said the Malta-flagged vessel was suspected to have been targeted by a triangle-shaped, bomb-carrying Shahed-136 drone while in international waters. The drone exploded, causing damage to the ship but not injuring any of its crew.
“We continue to monitor the situation closely,” the official said. The official declined to explain why the U.S. military believed Iran was behind the attack.
Al-Mayadeen, a pan-Arab satellite channel that is politically allied with the Iranian-backed Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, reported that an Israeli ship had been targeted in the Indian Ocean. The channel cited anonymous sources for the report, which Iranian media later cited.
