Trump has refused to concede the result to , alleging mass voter fraud and taking legal action despite election officials from both parties saying that the election process went well.

"I WON THE ELECTION!" Trump declared on Twitter early on Monday.

Twitter flagged the tweet with a notice saying that "official sources called this election differently".

"Why does the Fake News Media continuously assume that Joe Biden will ascend to the Presidency, not even allowing our side to show, which we are just getting ready to do, how badly shattered and violated our great Constitution has been in the 2020 Election," Trump said, in a tirade against the media and mail-in voting, which the president has claimed was the source of mass voter fraud.

The president's latest diatribe came just a day after he appeared to acknowledge for the first time that Biden won the White House.

Without using Biden’s name, the president on Sunday tweeted that "He won", something that Trump had not said before publicly, though he said the Democrat’s victory was only "in the eyes" of the media.

But the president soon followed up with a sharp U-turn, tweeting "He only won in the eyes of the FAKE NEWS MEDIA. I concede NOTHING! We have a long way to go."

The latest vote tallies gave Biden a clear win in the state-by-state Electoral College that decides the presidency, with 306 votes against Trump's 232. Two hundred and seventy votes are required for election.

Despite this, Trump administration officials say the president is in the process of preparing a transition to a second term in office.
