Russia fails in UN Security Council bid for Ukraine, US bioweapons inquiry

Only China voted with Russia in favour of a draft UN Security Council resolution on establishing a formal inquiry into Moscow's accusation the US and Ukraine have biological weapons programmes in Ukraine. Washington and Kyiv deny the claim.

The United States, the United Kingdom and France voted against it, while the remaining 10 council members abstained.

UN disarmament officials have long said they are not aware of any biological weapons programs in Ukraine.
