Egyptian star has set fans’ hearts racing again over doubts about his future at the club in an interview with UK footballing magazine four-four-two

“I don’t know, I have one year left. I think the fans know what I want, but in the contract it’s not everything about the money at all. So I don’t know, I can’t tell you exactly,” said Salah in the lengthy interview.

The Egyptian turns 30 in June, and is among the favourites for this year’s Ballon d’Or. If he is successful, he will be the first Arab to win the accolade since it was first awarded.

“To play in that atmosphere and to see the fans always behind me… I have banners in the stadium, two or three, and they’re always singing my song. It’s going to be a really sad moment,”  of his love for Liverpool.

Salah, who is a practicing Muslim, has won the hearts of Liverpool fans and has been the inspiration behind inventive singing from the stands in recent years.

“It’s good enough for me, it’s good enough for you - if it’s good enough for Salah, then I’m a Muslim too” is a chant regularly heard at Anfield.

Mohammed Salah led Liverpool to their first in over 30 years in 2020, scoring 44 goals in the process. This year he is on course to claim his third golden boot, as Liverpool race UAE-owned for the title.

Salah, a prolific forward and key player for Liverpool, has scored more than 150 goals for the club since joining from AS Roma in 2017.
