Far-right Knesset members urge Israeli military to destroy Gaza's water, food and energy sources
Eight far-right members of the Israeli Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee have called on Defence Minister Israel Katz to destroy all sources of food, water and power in the Gaza Strip.
In a letter to Katz, the Knesset members claim that Israel's military operations were failing to achieve the government's proclaimed objectives, which are the "dismantling of Hamas' governing and military capabilities".
They urged the defence minister to have the army destroy all sources of water, food and energy in northern Gaza and kill anyone in the area who "doesn't come out with a white flag" and then to gradually enter the area for a "complete cleansing of the enemy's nests".
Israel is believed to be implementing a "General's Plan" in northern Gaza designed to kill, starve, or expel the remaining inhabitants.
However, the eight Knesset members claim that Israel's measures are not enough.
"After encircling the area and the humanitarian evacuation, the IDF is not treating those who remain as the enemy, as is customary in international law and all Western armies, thus endangering our soldiers' lives by entering into the densely built area," their letter alleges.
They say that Israel's brutal attack on northern Gaza, which began in October, "has not been carried out properly" and say that a similar plan should be implemented in other parts of the Gaza Strip.
The eight MKs are Amit Halevi, Nissim Vaturi and Osher Shkalim (Likud Party), Tzvi Succot and Ohad Tal (Religious Zionism Party), Limor Son Har-Melech (Otzma Yehudit Party) and Avraham Bezalel (Shas Party).
Israel has ignored repeated calls to allow Palestinians access to humanitarian aid such as food and medicine.
