Israeli troops kill Palestinian girl in occupied West Bank: Palestinian ministry
Israeli forces shot and killed a 16-year-old Palestinian girl during a raid in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin on Sunday, the Palestinian health ministry said, as the wave of Israeli violence on Palestinians in the occupied West Bank this year continued.
The Israeli military claims it was aware of reports of the girl's death and the incident was under review. It claimed troops were shot at while carrying out a raid to arrest three wanted individuals and returned fire.
In the northern occupied West Bank, the city of Jenin houses a sprawling refugee camp in which armed Palestinian resistance groups including Islamic Jihad and Hamas have begun to confront the Israeli occupation more openly.
Along with the nearby city of Nablus, it has been at the centre of much of Israel's assaults in the occupied West Bank this year, with Israeli forces conducting near-daily raids.
This year is already one of the most violent in more than a decade, with Palestinian authorities saying more than 200 Palestinians, including both members of militant groups and civilians, have been killed by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank and besieged Gaza Strip this year.
