Israeli forces kill pregnant Palestinian woman in Nur Shams camp
Israeli forces killed two Palestinian woman, including one who was pregnant, in the Nur Shams refugee camp on Sunday, amid an expanding Israeli assault on the occupied West Bank.
Sondos Jamal Muhammad Shalabi, 23, and Rahaf Fuad Abdullah, 21, were killed during an Israeli raids on the camp located outside the city of Tulkarm in the north of the West Bank that began at dawn.
Shalabi and her husband were fired on by Israeli snipers as they were attempting to leave their home to safety during the raid, according to Palestinian news agency Wafa.
The report cited the Palestinian Health Ministry as saying that Shalabi was eight months pregnant and that paramedics from the Palestinian Red Crescent Society were unable to save the child because they were prevented by Israeli forces from reaching her. Shalabi's husband was wounded in the same incident.
Meanwhile, Abdullah was killed by Israeli forces in a separate incident, and and 14-year-old child and his father were also wounded by Israeli military fire, according to Wafa.
The Israeli military said that it was looking into the reports of Shalabi's death, according to the Times of Israel.
On Sunday the military announced the expansion of its assault on the northern occupied West Bank, dubbed 'Operation Iron Wall', into the Nur Shams camp.
The assault was launched on 21 January on the city of Jenin and its adjacent refugee camp but has since expanded to several other West Bank cities, and is expected to last several more weeks according to the Times of Israel.
In Jenin, Israeli forces have continued their assault on the city's refugee camp, with Wafa quoting Jenin's governor as saying that some 15,000 people have been displaced from the camp since the beginning of the operation.
Destruction of homes, roads and cars was also reported as Israeli forces withdrew from some areas of the camp.
Meanwhile south of Tubas, the Israeli military has sent reinforcements to the Fara'a camp, with raids and interrogations ongoing. Eight people have been detained in the raids.
At least 73 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces since the beginning of 2025 in the occupied West Bank.
