Egypt's Mo Salah shortlisted for FIFA player award
Egyptian football star and French-Algerian are two of 11 footballers shortlisted for the Best FIFA Men's Player, the international body announced.
Candidates for each category of the Best Football Awards of theÌýyear were revealed on Monday for both men and women's football.
TheyÌýwere selected by a panel of experts fromÌýmen's and women's football.
Fans will be able to vote for their preferred candidate in a public vote which will run until 10 December. FIFA will then announce three finalists in each category, before holding a ceremony on 17 January 2022.
If both are shortlisted, they would be two of three finalists of Arab origin.
They are accompanied on the Best Men's Player list by other stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo, N’Golo Kanté, and Lionel Messi.
Throughout the season, Salah scored 16 goals in 16 appearances in all competitions and set a new club record by scoring in nine games in a row.
The Liverpool star was also described as the best player in the world by the team's manager Jurgen Klopp last month.
Benzema scored 10 times after 14 match days throughout the season, making him the topÌýscorer in the La Liga so far.
