Egypt to unveil 'world's biggest Egyptian civilisation museum' in 2022
The world’s largest Egyptian civilisation museum will open to visitors in the second half of 2022, a culture official has said.

 will unveil the world's largest Egyptian  this year, a culture official has said.

Much of the work on the Grand Museum, spread across 177 acres close to the Giza pyramids, has been completed, according to Mostafa Waziri, Secretary-General of the .

"We can confirm that we have completed work on the exhibits that will be displayed at the Grand Museum. We are on track to open the in the second half of 2022," Waziri said while at the Egypt pavilion at on Sunday.

The museum was meant to open earlier, but work was delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Waziri also revealed that there are more projects to excavate .

"What we see above the surface of the earth in Egypt does not exceed 40 percent of the antiquities contained below the ground," Waziri said.

"There are more than 50 Egyptian missions working at various sites, and discoveries in Luxor, Minya, Sohag, Saqqara, Cairo and the Lower Egypt region have surprised the world."

The area of Fustat, home to the , was the site of Egypt's capital under the Umayyad dynasty after the Arab conquest.
