Donald Trump arrived in Rome on Tuesday afternoon for the final leg of his first overseas tour as US president, which has seen him visit three of the main sites of the world's Abrahamic religions.

Air Force One landed in the Italian capital for the highly-publicised visit, where he will have a high-profile meeting with Pope Francis in the Vatican.

The audience should hold up some interesting discussions with the two clashing on plight of migrants, capitalism and climate change.

The papal audience will be attended by Trump's wife Melania and daughter Ivanka, the Trump couple are to be given a tour of the Sixtine Chapel and St Peter's Basilica.

They will then meet Italy's president and prime minister at the presidential palace, the Quirinale, while Melania visits a children's hospital and Ivanka discusses migrant issues with members of the St Egidio religious community.

The Trump team is due to fly to Brussels on Wednesday afternoon for meetings with EU and NATO officials before returning to Italy late Thursday for the G7 summit in Sicily on Friday and Saturday.

Trump has already visited Saudi Arabia where he met Arab and Muslim leaders, before landing in Israel where he also visited the occupied West Bank.
