Bill Gates in Qatar seeking health, sustainability collaboration

On Tuesday, Microsoft founder Bill Gates met with members of the Qatari royal family and representatives of the Qatar Foundation in Doha to discuss shared challenges in health policy, sustainability, and Qatar's diplomatic role in Afghanistan.

Bill Gates, Co-Chair and Trustee of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation met on Tuesday in Doha with Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al-Thanithe, Vice Chairperson and CEO of the Qatar Foundation. The meeting set out the cooperation between the two foundations on issues of health and. 

The Qatar Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on education, research, and community development, welcomed Gates at its headquarters.

Bill Gates, who made his fortunes through Microsoft, has since 2008 devoted himself full time to philanthropist work and saluted the initiative between his organisation and the Qatar Foundation, .

During his meeting in Qatar, Gates also met the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Minister on Tuesday that Bill Gates visit to Qatar also tackled “efforts to respond to the humanitarian and developmental challenges in Afghanistan.â€

Qatar has been a key player in discussions between the Taliban and the United States for many years. It hosted months of US-Taliban peace talks and has since been critical to the evacuation of American citizens and others from Afghanistan.
