Sheikh Ahmed El-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Cairo-based Al-Azhar Mosque, appointed a female advisor for the first time since the institution was in 970 CE, local state-run Ahram online .

Dr Nahla El-Saidi, who was the head of the Development Centre of International Students, has been assigned the position of El-Tayeb's adviser for expatriate affairs at the highest Islamic Sunni institution in the region, the added.

Egyptian women have long been marganlised in several sectors in Egypt and have fought for the right of equal opportunities with men, only gaining partial victories in the process.

According to the state-run Central for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAMPAS), the total number of employed people in Egypt reached  in the second quarter of 2022, with 24.8 million of them are male, while o 5.1 million are female.

Egypt a population of 66,461,258 persons between the ages of 15-64, of the total population of 107 million, among them, are 33,768,817 males and 32,692,440 females.
