Afghanistan has been struck by a series of earthquakes this week, with the latest 4.8 magnitude event occurring near the Hindu Kush region.

An of magnitude 4.8 struck near the Hindu Kush region in on Tuesday, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said.

The quake was at a depth of 86 km (53.4 miles) and occurred about 164 km east of , EMSC said. 

This follows an earthquake in northeastern on Monday which killed at least eight people. 

The 5.3 magnitude event struck near the city of in the early hours, the US Geological Survey said. 

A earthquake in Afghanistan in June killed around 1,000 people and injured 1,500, according to theIn some areas of the most affected provinces, Khost and Paktika, 80 per cent of homes have been damaged.
