The world must take action following a recent report by a top human rights organisation accusing Israel of committing genocide in Gaza, Hamas has said.

"The report issued by Amnesty International, which confirmed that the Zionist enemy is deliberately committing genocide against the Palestinians, is a new message to the international community," the Palestinian group said in a statement.

Hamas, which is battling Israeli forces in Gaza, stressed the need to "overcome the state of shameful helplessness that allowed this rogue entity to commit its unprecedented crimes in modern history against our Palestinian people in Gaza".

"The report’s reference to the involvement of the United States and other countries in the genocide in Gaza is confirmation of their actual participation [in the war] and calls for an immediate review of their biased policies towards Israel, which violate international laws and humanitarian norms."

Hamas called on these countries to "stop supplying the Israeli army with weapons that kill innocent civilian women and children".

The group also called on international judicial institutions, particularly the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the International Criminal Court (ICC), to "accelerate measures to protect civilians, stop the genocide, and hold the occupation leaders accountable for their crimes against humanity".

Last month, the ICC issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defence minister Yoav Gallant over alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. The court also issued a warrant for Hamas military wing commander Mohammed al-Deif â€” a man who Israeli claims to have killed.

Amnesty International’s Israel branch criticised an investigation by its parent group that accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza, saying that the result was "predetermined".

Amnesty Israel did acknowledge that the "scale of killing and destruction carried out by Israel in Gaza has reached horrific proportions," but said they do not believe Israel’s war meets "the definition of genocide as strictly laid out in the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide".

The US, which has offered unwavering support for Israel throughout the war and has continued to send arms, rejected the report, considering the accusations "baseless."

Israel’s war on Gaza has killed over 44,000 Palestinians and wounded more than 105,000 others since 7 October 2023, mostly women and children. The bombardment has rendered much of the enclave uninhabitable.
