Humanitarian teams from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) have gained access to northern Gaza and are shocked by the dire state of hospitals there.
Jonathan Whittall from the UN Office described the conditions, with ongoing fighting, and emphasized the lack of food, water, and sanitation. The Indonesian Hospital in Jabalia is now destroyed and unable to provide medical care. The breakdown of hospital services has left countless lives at risk, especially amid relentless Israeli attacks.
Gaza’s civil defence agency reported that the New Year began in tragedy, with 15 people killed in an Israeli airstrike on northern Gaza.
