After more than a decade of suspended international flights, a period defined by the suffering of Syrians under the Assad regime and their separation from their homeland, international air travel to Damascus has resumed.

The first Qatari commercial flight to the Syrian capital carried passengers brimming with joy, singing celebratory songs as they finally returned home directly.

Post-Assad Syria presents a starkly different reality. For years, Syrians faced immense challenges in travel, often forced to fly to neighbouring Lebanon or Jordan before enduring long and arduous overland journeys. The resumption of direct flights marks a significant step in easing travel and reconnecting Syrians with their homeland.
