Displaced Palestinians in Gaza have shared their New Year’s wishes for peace and the rebuilding of their homes in 2025. Now in its second winter, the war in Gaza has intensified the suffering of hundreds of thousands of displaced people, many forced to flee their homes multiple times, while efforts to agree on a ceasefire remain stalled. As Gaza continues to be ravaged by the Israeli genocide and war, residents say their greatest hope for the new year is to see an end to the conflict and to return to their homes – a simple dream that remains an immense challenge. In Khan Younis, dozens of tents, already tattered from months of use, have been blown away or flooded by strong winds and rain. Families are struggling to repair the damage, patching torn sheets of plastic and piling up sand to hold back the encroaching water. The Palestinian death toll from Israel's ongoing brutal military campaign in the Gaza Strip has risen to 45,541, with 108,338 more injured.
