Lebanon's national rugby team on Sunday celebrated a historic victory after defeating their French opponents at a 2017 Rugby League World Cup game held in Australia's Canberra.

Nicknamed "The Cedars", after the country's famous cedar tree, Lebanon's rugby team beat their French opponents with a score of 29-18.

Scores were locked up at 18 – 18, until Lebanon's Mitchell Moses made a show in the final stage of the game, knocking over a field goal that gave The Cedars a lead in the game.

Moses then sealed a win with an outstanding chip and chase try that got Twitter talking.

Lebanon has failed to qualify for the Rugby League World Cup since 2000, when the team was unable to secure a win in any of its group games.

It comes as no surprise that Sunday's win against France was a serious cause for celebration both for The Cedars and the Lebanese Twitterati.

The victory puts Lebanon in prime position to progress from Group A along with heavyweights England and Australia to the quarter-finals.
