"Three Katyusha rockets landed at , one of which targeted a vehicle parking lot at the airport, causing damage to 4 vehicles," the ministry said in a statement.

The parking garage is near to the airport's departure and arrival halls, where hundreds of passengers are present.

The missiles were launched from the Zaytoun area in the Abu Ghraib district, west of the capital, the ministry statement added, without laying the blame on any one group or faction.

The incident was the second to occur in one week, though no casualties were reported on either occasion.

In July, two  also targeted  airport, where US soldiers are posted,  army said, adding there were no casualties.

That incident was the 39th attack targeting US interests since October last year in Iraq, a country where the US and its sworn enemy Iran vie for influence. 

Iran's most prominent General, Qasem Soleimani, was killed in a US drone strike near Baghdad airport in January, bringing Tehran and Washington to the brink of direct confrontation.

The US has routinely blamed pro-Iran factions for targeting its interests in Iraq in recent months.
