Mo Salah made footballing history on Sunday night, by overtaking Robbie Fowler to become Liverpool's top Premier League goal scorer following a historic win against Manchester United.

The Egyptian forward bagged two goals in the epic 7-0 Liverpool win over their North West rivals, which has been touted as a resurgence for a side that has so far struggled this season.

The fourth and sixth goals of the 7-0 rout saw him overtake Robbie Fowler's 128 goals to become Liverpool's all-time Premier League goalscorer, although far short of Ian Rush's 346 league goals.

English football's old League One was replaced by the Premier League in 1992.

"I cannot describe it. This is one of my best days of my life, and I broke the record that I was seeking from the time I came to the club," Salah told beIN Sports

"We entered the match, and our goal was to win ... Everyone was hungry to score, and we scored seven and I hope this will give us a boost, not an excessive confidence... and also we can continue to win until we end the season in the top four."

Salah celebrated his achievement after the match with a tweet capturing the historic moment.

"An extraordinary day for all Liverpool fans. I'm honoured to keep making history with this great club," he tweeted.

There were jubilant scenes at Anfield as Salah celebrated his record along with the team's historic win over Manchester United that lifted Jurgen Klopp's side to fifth place in the league, above Saudi-owned Newcastle United.

The Egyptian star also picked up the man of the match award and Salah's teammates lined up to congratulate the forward, both at Anfield and online.

"What a team performance that was! Congratulations to the king on his new record @MoSalah ðŸÃõ," tweeted Jordan Henderson with a photo showing the two players in the dressing room.

Salah signed a three-year contract for Liverpool last year, which should see him bag more goals for the club over the coming seasons.

He has become one of Liverpool's most-loved players since signing for the club in 2017 helping them win their first league title for 30 years in 2020.
