Israel continues to pound Gaza, as top medic says bodies 'vaporising'
Israel continued to heavily pound areas across Gaza on Monday, with at least 10 Palestinians killed in an attack on Beit Lahia in the north of the Strip as well as buildings blown up in Jabalia refugee camp, which has been besieged for over a month.
Another Palestinian was killed in an Israeli strike on the central Gaza village of Al-Musaddar early on Monday.
The Palestinian Wafa news agency said there was indiscriminate shelling in Absan al-Kabira in southern Khan Younis, with witnesses stating there was widespread fear among residents that this could be a prelude to a new ground incursion in the area.
On Sunday, three separate Israeli attacks killed at least 47 Palestinians and wounded over 108 others, Wafa reported.
The strikes across the enclave come as the director of the health ministry in Gaza, Dr Munir Al-Bursh, announced that medical staff have noted Israeli forces using "internationally prohibited weapons" that are causing bodies to "vaporise" in Gaza.
The deadly attacks have worsened already dire conditions and a lack of medical resources and facilities in the Strip.
The UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, also announced that it will be halting aid shipments through the Karem Abu Salem crossing between Israel and Gaza due to continued Israeli attacks on aid convoys.
Medical staff in Gaza have repeatedly said they are no longer able to recover bodies or provide proper care to victims due to relentless Israeli attacks.
According to Al-Jazeera, the Israeli army also targeted agricultural plots in an apparent show that they are pressing on with a military ground offensive.
Aid delivery proposal
Meanwhile, Fatah, which governs partly in the occupied West Bank, announced they were in discussions with Hamas in Cairo over a proposal put forward by Egypt on re-opening the Rafah crossing.
According to Anadolu agency, a Fatah official named Abdullah Abdullah, said that they were "keen on an immediate end to the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, expediting aid delivery and initiating reconstruction".
Abdullah said the discussions were surrounding having the Palestinian Authority manage the Rafah crossing, which is between Gaza and Egypt, on the Palestinian side.
The crossing, which is one of the most important access points for vital aid, has been closed since Israeli forces forcibly occupied and attacked the Palestinian side in May.
Egypt is also set to host a conference later today, centred on the humanitarian response in Gaza later today.
Egyptian media reported that UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J Mohammed and ministers from around the Middle East are expected to join.
"The event will address the political, security, and humanitarian aspects of the situation in Gaza, with a particular emphasis on supporting UNRWA’s operations," Egypt’s Ahram Online reported.
Israel's war on Gaza has killed at least 44,429 Palestinians and wounded over 105,250 others sine 7 October 2023. Israeli attacks have levelled entire neighbourhoods and rendered most health facilities out of order.
