Israeli forces continued to detain a pregnant Palestinian woman on Saturday, two days after she was arrested from her home, an advocacy group said.
Baseel Khaled Abu Hameed, 28, from the city of Yatta near Hebron in the occupied West Bank, was detained in a bid to pressure her husband to come forward, as by °®Âþµº's Arabic edition al-Araby al-Jadeed.
The Palestinian Prisoners' Club (PPC) advocacy group said in a statement on Saturday that Israeli authorities were keeping Abu Hameed - who was four months pregnant - despite the surrender of her husband Bakr Nabeel Abu Rajab, a Palestine Red Crescent Society ambulance driver.
His brother, Mousa Abu Rajab, who is also a Red Crescent ambulance driver, was also arrested
According to information available as of Friday, Israeli forces transferred Abu Hameed to a location where female Palestinian prisoners have reportedly suffered mistreatment.
The issue has escalated since the beginning of Israel's war in October, according to testimonies from several female prisoners who were visited by lawyers and released detainees.
Since 7 October, the total number of arrests in the West Bank amounts to some 6,500 people, including over 215 women, the PPC said.
The number of female prisoners who remain detained in Israeli jails is at least 71.
It comes as Israel wages its devastating war against the Gaza Strip, where its forces have so far killed 27,365 people. Residential buildings, ambulances, and hospitals have come under attack.
The International Court of Justice last month ruled that Israel was plausibly breaching the Genocide Convention in the Palestinian enclave.
