Palestinian journalist has been killed by an Israeli airstrike in Gaza on Friday.

The Gaza Government media office said that photojournalist Omar Salah Al-Derawi was killed after an airstrike targeted his home in the Al-Zawaida area in central Gaza, also killing his parents.

The killing of Al-Derawi now brings the number of Palestinian journalists killed in Gaza to 203 since October 7 2023.

A from the funeral, posted by another Palestinian photojournalist on Instagram, who has the handle @m.pix.21, shows Al-Dawani's body being carried with a press vest laid on top as the funeral prayer is held.

"Farewell to fellow journalist Omar Al-Derawi and his family, who died at dawn today as a result of the occupation's bombing of their home in the Zawaida camp in the middle of the Gaza Strip 💔💔," @m.pix.21 wrote.

The media office has condemned the targeting of journalists, calling it a "systematic effort to kill and assassinate" members of the media and called on the international community and organisations working on press freedom to denounce the attacks and hold Israel to account.

Al-Derawi's death comes after another photojournalist, Hassan al-Qishawi, was killed on Thursday after an Israeli drone strike targeted west of Gaza City.

Palestinian journalists have been at the forefront of documenting Israel's horrific war on the Gaza Strip, as foreign journalists cannot enter the enclave and report on the attacks.

Israel's targeting of journalists has made Gaza the world's most dangerous region for journalists, with the Gaza Strip accounting for nearly 30 percent of journalists killed on the job – according to .

RSF also concluded Palestine is the most dangerous country for journalists.

Israel has previously killed reporters and them, with no evidence, of working for Hamas, such as after the killing of Al Jazeera journalist Ismail Al Ghoul.
