Five Egyptian expats could be deported from Kuwait for illegal fishing
Five have been detained in Ìýand face deportation for alleged illegal fishing and hunting, according to local media.
They were sent to the Sharq in Kuwait City to be deported after they were accused of unlawfully fishing in Kuwait Bay, outlet Alanbaa reported.
Coastguards inspected the boat the Egyptians were found on and discovered seagulls. The five suspects reportedly admitted to hunting with the intention of selling to birds, breaking Kuwait's environmental law.
Egypt is the largest expatriate group in Kuwait, making up 24 percent of the total workforce,Ìýmore even than Kuwaitis who account for only 23 percent.Ìý
Earlier this year, Kuwait unveiled a plan to deport expatriates found guilty of committing major environmental offences with reports that the punishments have already been applied in a number of cases.
