Brazil's electoral court rejects Bolsonaro challenge
The head ofÌýBrazil'sÌýelectoralÌýcourt Alexandre de Moraes on Wednesday rejected a complaint from PresidentÌýJair Bolsonaro's party to challenge October's run-off vote, which the incumbent lost my a narrow margin, according to a court document.
Moraes,Ìýwho is alsoÌýa Supreme Court justice, also fined the parties in Bolsonaro's coalition to the tune of 22.9 million reais ($4.27 million) for what the court described as bad faith litigation, the document showed.
On Tuesday, Bolsonaro'sÌýLiberal Party (PL) filed a complaint toÌýchallenge the outcome of the electionÌýclaiming some of the electronic voting machines hadÌýflaws and that their votesÌýshould be invalidated, an argument that election authorities met with initial skepticism.
ElectoralÌýexperts and political analystsÌýjudged the attempt as weak on merits, though itÌýcould still fire up supporters who have been protestingÌýBolsonaro's loss.
