Beirut port explosion: 1st anniversary live updates
Today marks the first anniversary of the Beirut port explosion that on the 4th August 2020.
In what was believed to be one of the powerful non-nuclear, man-made explosions in human history, more than 2,750 tonnes of improperly stored ammonium nitrate exploded at Beirut's port, leading to at least 218 deaths and more than 300,000 people becoming homeless.
The Beirut port explosion has since become a symbol for the . To date, there has been no justice for the victims or their families.

Demonstrators filled Pasteur street in one of the main thoroughfares of Beirut, marching towards the port, where the families of the victims will make a statement.

One year on from Beirut port explosion, residents to take tothe streets to demand justice
Protests have beenscheduled for the early afternoon with demonstrators planning to march from the General Security Directorate in Achrafieh to the Lebanese Emigrant Statue, where thewill gather to speak. Finally, at 6:07 pm, the exact time of the explosion a year earlier, a moment of silence will be held before protesters march towards the Lebanese parliament.

Lebanon remembers Beirut port victims:
Using the hashtags #WeAreALLVictims and #BeirutBlast, the Lebanese people tweeted support for the victims of the blast and demanded from the government's overs its failure to make a stockpile of ammonium nitrate that cased the explosion safe, and its subsequent handling of the crisis.
Led by 4AugLebanon, a collective of families of victims of the Beirut blast, the hashtag seeks to "unite to attain justice for the 4 million victims".
Lebanese government officials could be guilty of "homicide" over their handling of fertiliser at the port in Beirut where a fatal explosion took place last year, said on Tuesday.
In a new report titled, "'They killed us from the inside': An investigation into the August 4 ", the New York-based rights group catalogued a series of failings regarding the stockpile of that blew up, causing 218 deaths and 7,000 injuries.
