Algeria football journalists covering AFCON tournament robbed outside Cameroon hotel
At least two people were left injured afterÌýa group of Ìýcovering the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) were attacked in on Sunday, Algerian media reported.
The attackers stopped the journalists -Ìýwho are in the city of Douala to cover the football tournamentÌý- as they were leaving their hotel, robbing them of personal possessions and their passports, reported Algeria’s Al-Khabar.
It was not clear what weapons were used in the assault.
Abdelrahman Belaliya, who works at Algeria’s Al-Bilad TV channel, confirmed that the journalists worked at the Competition and DZ Foot websites, as well as the state-run Algeria Press Service.
He added that a bag containing money, a phone, and a computer was stolen.
The Africa Cup of Nations 33rd edition is expected to run from 9 January toÌý6 February.
isÌýthe defending champions which has led toÌýhuge media coverage of the tournament in the North African country.
Algeria recently won the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup and isÌýconsidered one of the best teams in the region.
